Notes: This large ciliate is usually red. It is capable of forming large blooms resulting in “red tides” (see below). Typically, there is a constriction around the midline of Myrionecta, but that does not show in this photo, which may be an end-on view.
Myrionecta is also widely reported in the middle and lower Chesapeake Bay
