Ocypode quadrata (Atlantic ghost crab) 1st crab stage

Ocypode mega-1st crab big

Ocypode quadrata (Atlantic ghost crab) 1st crab stage

Collected: in the surf zone along the New Jersey coast in the late fall.

Notes: The striking bright blue eyes give rise to the local name of “blueberry crabs” sometimes applied to this stage (and to the megalopa) in North Carolina. These crabs only appear late in the fall.
