ostracod

ostracod (~1 mm long)

Collected at night 50-80 kilometers off of Barnegat, NJ.

Notes: This is one of the most common offshore ostracods. The presence of a “beak” at the anterior end suggests it may be a species of Conchoecia or Euconchoecia. This ostracod is holoplanktonic and uses the appendages visible at the left for swimming
