Rhincalanus spp. nauplius

Rhincalanus spp.nauplius (Calanoid)

Collected 30 km off of Georgetown, SC, summer.

Notes: This atypical nauplius resembles the harpacticoid copepod Macrosetella.

This may be Rhincalanus nasutus, a cosmopolitan species often found over continental shelves. The nauplius stage lasts about a week and feeds on diatoms.
