ID note: The prominent bump on the “forehead” is diagnostic, but can be difficult to see unless the specimen is viewed at a favorable angle.

ID Notes: The following features of the telson separate Hexapanopeus from most similar mud crab zoeae..
1.The two outer projections (furca) of the telson are unusually long.
2. The absence of spines on the outer margins of the furca.
