Mantis shrimp larva (stomatopod)
|Location: 20-30 miles off shore of Winyaw Bay, SC. June 2005. Notes: This is an early stage mantis shrimp (stomatopod) larva with relatively undeveloped dorsal carapace. The preying mantis-like claws are distinctive. Several genera of mantis shrimps occur in deeper waters, many with undescribed larval stages thus precluding a definitive identification of this one.
