Naushon mud shrimp larva (Naushonia crangonoides)

Collected: June 2007, from just off the beach to 45 km off of Chincoteague, VA in 25m depths. We have also caught them within 5 km of shore.
Notes: Both the adults and larvae of this unusual burrowing shrimp are rarely encountered compared to the much more common callianassid mud shrimps and Upogebia.Id Notes: The paired fleshy projections on the ventral side of each abdominal segment are distinctive.
