Zaops ostreum zoea (oyster pea crab)
Collected: 5 km off of Assateague, Va in July and August, 2005 snf 2007 using an epibenthic sled (363 um mesh) towed just above the botton in 10m depths. Zaops was rarely caught in this location.
Notes:The adult Zaops ostreum lives as commensals inside of oysters.
ID note: Zaops lacks both dorsal and lateral spines on its carapace. Only the first zoeal stage of the sand crab Emerita also lacks these spines, but Emerita has a larger rostrum and a distinctive telson.
