Collected: 1-4 kilometers off shore of Chincoteague, VA. Caught just off the bottom using an epibenthic sled (365 micron mesh). Summer 2005.
Notes: Very young squid called “paralarvae” are sometimes caught in plankton nets. This one is probably the brief squid Loliguncula brevis, a small squid common in estuaries and bays from Virginia south through the Gulf. As they grow, they soon swim well enough to avoid plankton nets.
