Snail (Nassarius obsoletus) egg case

Collected: Within a kilometer of the beach at Assateague Island, VA using an epibenthic sled witha 365 micrometer mesh. June 2009.

Notes: These egg cases from the common mud snail Nassarius obsoletus are relatively common in plankton collections off of Assateague. Empty cases are common, but the eggs are visible in this capsule. They are usually found in abundance in the Assateague inlet and estuary where the adults are abundant, but egg cases also occur attached to debris in the surf zone . Some become detached and thus caught in plankton collections.
